GOZO CHANNEL SHUTTLE SERVICE FOR SANTA MARIJA FESTA
In its efforts to further enhance the ferry service and cater for the increase in the number of passengers travelling to Gozo for the Santa Marija period, the Gozo Channel Co Ltd will between Monday 9th August and Sunday, 22nd August be substantially increasing the ferry schedule service from Cirkewwa and Mgarr. At peak hours, the Company will also be operating all four vessels on a shuttle service and when the need arises both keys at the Cirkewwa terminal will be utilised.
Speaking about this added service, Gozo Channel Chairman, Mr John E. Sullivan, stated that “in providing this shuttle service we are aiming to meet the expected increased demand of passengers travelling to Gozo throughout this period of Santa Marija. Our aim is to provide our passengers with an efficient service and reduce queues at both the Cirkewwa and Mgarr ferry terminals.”
Mr Sullivan added that “in order to ensure the smooth running of operations, we are also extending the opening hours of the ticketing booths. In fact, extra personnel will also be deployed at both terminals to cater for all the ground operations. In order to decrease confusion and delays, the Company is encouraging commuters to buy their tickets immediately upon arrival at Mgarr rather than leaving this until last minute before departure.”
Gozo Channel, throughout the years has always catered for the increase in the amount of commuters crossing between the islands during the Santa Marija week. Conscious of this increase in demand in recent years the Company has also extended its services to a two week period. Besides servicing the increased flow, this extension in the shuttle service also helps to cater for the heavy traffic during the week-end of the feast of Santa Marija in Zebbug.
