Gozo Channel's success rests essentially on the skill of management and staff to minimise the scope for human error. It is therefore essential that every action affecting safety or the protection of the environment, taken at any level within the Company, is based on a sound understanding of its consequences.

The Company shall provide the necessary resources and qualified personnel, defining its organisation, identifying specific tasks and responsibilities, establishing training requirements and co-ordinating all tasks in order to reach the stated objectives.

The SMS applies to all levels of the Company, including all shore-based locations, all ships and all those personnel who are directly involved or employed at these locations and all ships. The Company shall develop appropriate procedures to cover all areas of the SMS.

In order to meet its objectives in safety and environmental protection the Company requires total commitment from all personnel who are directly involved in the Company's operation to achieve the above mentioned objectives. This includes shore-based managers and staff, vessel masters, officers and crews.

Effective implementation of the Company's policy shall be reviewed regularly in order to ensure both that the objectives are achieved and that the procedures and instructions are suitable and effective.
